Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy (PEMF) has been used since the mid-1970s to help heal non-union bone fractures.  In recent years, medical research showed that PEMF can also reduce pain; stimulate collagen and cartilage synthesis, and improve sleep.  It is based on the fact that living tissue generates a weak magnetic field, due to the constant movement of positively and negatively charged ions and molecules, such as sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) ion movement across cell membranes.  This movement is necessary for cells to carry out their life functions.  For example, nerve impulses are made possible by ion movement.

When this magnetic field is weak or disrupted from an injury or disease, PEMF can be used to help restore it to normal levels.  The field intensity generated by PEMF devices is well in the safe range (very low power) to mimic what the body produces naturally, and is pulsed at frequencies that suit the body's cells and tissues.

Be wary:  some Pulsed EMF companies may insist that strong, higher magnetic field strength is necessary to be effective.  This is often to justify charging very high prices for their products.  The reality is that you don't want to overpower your body's magnetic fields; just assist it with similar levels of magnetic field intensity.  The products sold on this site have been vetted, and produce safe field strengths that are consistent with published research.
