Pressure Therapy devices use a force or pressure to impart a therapeutic effect to part of the body such as skin, blood vessels, muscle, tendons and joints.  The goals, depending on the device are to break apart scar tissue, impart movement to restricted joints and soft tissues, stretch ligaments and tendons, improve posture, increase circulation and reduce swelling.

Shockwave refers to high-energy sound waves applied over an area of scar tissue (reparative tissue formed after injury or surgery), usually over or adjacent to a joint such as the knee or hip.  Scar tissue starts to form almost immediately after an injury and often results in adhesions to surrounding tissue leading to restricted limb/joint movement and chronic pain.  Shockwaves break apart and loosen scar tissue, reducing pain and increasing limb/joint range of motion. 

Like Pulsed EMF, shockwave devices are safe to use and easy to operate, making them a great home therapy device.  The ideal person to own a shockwave machine is someone who suffers from chronic joint stiffness and pain originating from a previous injury, occupation or sports, and requires ongoing therapy such as sports massage, PT or chiropractic.  It is also a worthwhile investment for a family of one or more athletes (football, basketball, baseball, swimming, etc.) since shockwave can help prevent future joint problems by reducing scar tissue build up in injured/strained joints, and therefore improve athletic performance.
